41 Abstract This article presents an analysis of the tendencies and fashions of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), of becoming smart universities or Smart Campuses around the literature review available to date in the infosphere on that topic. In summary, the activities of the universities must go beyond the minimization of costs in relation to functional systems and integrated applications to the IoT (Internet of Things) or the cloud that are very expensive and that are immersed in the trend of intelligent universities or smart campus focusing on activities that are not specific to universities to the detriment of educational quality. Particularly the case of the National Autonomous University of Honduras which is in the first place nationally between positions 191 and 200 of the total univer- sities in the QS Ranking even when they lost 20 points (El Heraldo, 2017b). This shows that national higher education, both at the public level and at the private level, has deteriorated and is taking its toll on scientific research and national production. Keywords: Intelligent universities, intelligent campus, smart campuses, theory of the sociology of digital education.
