Abstract The article highlights conceptual and practical ele- ments to determinate if the administration and pro- fessional competences influence the performance of teachers. Administration is the process by which an envi- ronment is designed and maintained in which individuals working in groups meet specific goals effectively. This basic definition needs to be expanded: As managers, people perform the management functions of planning, organizing, in- tegrating personnel, directing and controlling. The adminis- tration deals with productivity, which means effectiveness and efficiency, and the sum of the two to achieve effectiveness. (Harold Koontz, 2012). The competences are the capaci- ties with different knowledge, skills, thoughts, character and values in an integral way in the different interactions that human beings have for life in the personal, social and work environment. (Perrenoud, 2009). Teaching performance with a renewed and inte- gral vision can be understood as “the process of mobilizing their professional capacities, their per- sonal disposition and their social responsibility to articulate meaningful relationships, participate in educational management; strengthen a democratic institutional culture, to promote the development of skills and abilities for life “(CAMPOS, 2006). INTRODUCCIÓN La administración es un cuerpo de conocimientos que se construye a lo largo del tiempo, y bien se podría afirmar que esto data desde que el hombre apareció sobre la faz de la Tierra, pues siempre tiene la necesi- dad de vivir mejor; sin embargo, se dice que la administración es un área de conocimiento joven, con apenas 110 años de haberse empezado a sistematizar. (Hernández, 2014) La administración es el resultado histórico acumulado de la contribu- ción de científicos en múltiples dis- ciplinas. Así, tenemos que la filosofía nutre a todas las ciencias y estas, a su vez, facilitan la sistematización de un nuevo conocimiento que apareció a principios del siglo pasado con el nombre de administración. Por lo tanto, el enfoque de la ad- ministración en que relaciona las competencias es: La administración basada en los enfoques de produc- ción, el enfoque interdisciplinario, desarrollo tecnológico y la era del conocimiento.
